JITRA: The tragic case of Sabari Baharom, a former Felcra officer, has taken a shocking turn as his son revealed a link to one of the alleged murderers. Sabari’s body is feared to have been disposed of in the Sungai Padang Terap, leading to widespread outrage in the community.
Muhammad Amir Hakimi Sabari, 25, described the murder as “horrific,” sharing his disbelief regarding the actions of the suspect he recognized. This contractor had been working on a neighboring property for the last five months, and Muhammad Amir felt it necessary to speak out.
“I know him, and what he did is beyond appalling and cruel,” he told reporters on Monday, September 30, while present at the site in Sungai Padang Terap, seeking police updates on the search for his father’s remains.
He noted that his father often interacted with one of the suspects, exchanging greetings and engaging in brief conversations as he passed by the construction site. “The suspect is not from this village; he is an outsider, and my father was always kind to him,” he mentioned.
As the youngest of three siblings, Muhammad Amir articulated the family’s deep anguish as they awaited news from law enforcement. They remain hopeful that the search will soon yield results in locating Sabari’s body. “We will continue performing solat hajat until my father’s body is found. I hope that the search teams will find a way to locate him, especially given the current flooding conditions,” he added.
Earlier, Comm Datuk Fisol Salleh, the police chief of Kedah, confirmed that Sabari, aged 62, had been thrown into the river with his hands tied and mouth taped shut by two suspects. However, the search for his remains has not yet been successful since he was reported missing on September 4.
The investigation made progress with the arrest of two local male suspects, aged 26 and 38, last Friday, September 27. The community is still in shock over the brutality of the crime and is eagerly awaiting further developments from law enforcement. – Bernama
